Unlike breast implants, pectoral implants are made of solid or semi-solid silicone so there is no chance or rupture. During this appointment you will discuss how you want to look. A variety of shapes and sizes are available and your surgeon, using your input, will guide you through the selection process.Performed as an out-patient procedure under general anesthetic, pectoral implants are inserted through incisions in the armpit along the edge of the pectoral muscle. A pocket or tunnel is created beneath the muscle and the implants are put into position before the incisions are closed.If the patient also desires a more toned chest, this procedure can be combined with liposuction to remove excess fat in the region.If your surgeon agrees to combine your top surgery with your pectoral implant procedure they may first remove the breast tissues, resize the areola, and reposition the nipple. Once this is complete, they will insert the implants beneath the chest muscles before closing the incisions.Recovery After your procedure, your surgeon will bandage the incision areas and place an elastic garment around the chest to reduce bruising and swelling. You will be given a prescription for pain medication to alleviate any discomfort or pain you may feel over the first few days. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least four weeks.
